What if the one thing we resist the most is the one thing that holds the key to our freedom? Forgiveness, in the eyes of the world, can seem like giving in—letting others off the hook. But in the Course’s teaching, forgiveness is the most powerful tool for liberation. Lesson 121 tells us, "Forgiveness is the key to happiness." Why? Because as long as we hold grievances, we’re locked into a cycle of pain. We perceive through the lens of hurt, and the world mirrors back that suffering. But forgiveness dissolves the veil. It unshackles us from the past. It reveals that no one is truly guilty—that what we perceived as attack was actually a call for love. Chapter 30 puts it plainly: "Forgiveness recognizes what you thought your brother did to you has not occurred." This isn’t denial. It’s the correction of perception. We’re choosing to see with the Holy Spirit’s vision instead of the ego’s. Forgiveness doesn’t change the past—it changes how we see it. And in doing so, it transforms our experience of the present.
