Genesis 45:1-8, 15

As humans we have a natural, sinful impulse to seek revenge and hold grudges. We feel it's only fair that if someone hurts or wrong us, they deserve to feel our pain in equal measure. Revenge is expected.

Forgiveness is unexpected. The story of Joseph forgiving his brothers unveils a larger narrative of just how unexpectedly God has forgiven us. And this leads us to do the unexpected too. We forgive.
