A former Leitrim County Councillor has claimed that the decision taken by the local Authority in Sligo not to proceed with the Sligo Greenway could also impact the potential of other similar projects in the North West.
Sean Mc Dermott served as a Manorhamilton Municipal District Councillor for a period of twenty years between 2004 and 2024.
The former Fine Gael elected representative was leading advocate for the development of the Sligo, Leitrim, Northern Counties, Railway Greenway.
The project aims to provide a greenway from Carraroe, in Sligo to Enniskillen, passing through Ballysadare, Collooney, Ballintogher, Dromahair, Manorhamilton, Glenfarne, Blacklion, Belcoo and Letterbreen.
Mr McDermott says the decision not to proceed with the Sligo Greenway is a blow as connectivity between respective greenways is seen as vital in attracting visitors to this region
