Former President Ma Ying-jeou has been in the news recently because of comments he made at a forum held by his foundation last Saturday. The forum was called “National Insecurity: How can Taiwan make itself safe in a dangerous situation?"

Speaking at the opening, Ma said he will do everything he can to prevent an outbreak of war in the Taiwan Strait. Ma said it’s true that China has posed a threat to Taiwan, and that the island must be well-prepared for a worst-case scenario, as it is the people who will suffer the most should a war break out.
