In 2019, Jill Ellis became the first coach to win two FIFA Women’s World Cup titles. One year later, the former USWNT head coach is committed to unlocking opportunities for the female coaches who look to follow in her footsteps. On this week’s episode of The U.S. Soccer Podcast, Ellis joins hosts Jordan Angeli and Charlie Davies to discuss U.S. Soccer’s newly launched Jill Ellis Scholarship Fund and the SheChampions Mentorship Program, initiatives aimed to directly target and tackle the barriers women face when getting into or advancing in coaching.

The all-time wins leader among USWNT coaches, Ellis speaks on the need to dramatically increase the number and visibility of female coaches, and how networking and mentorship have evolved since she began her own coaching journey.

While expanding on her current work as a mentor and advocate, Ellis also reflects on her own coaching career, and the individuals and experiences that shaped her. Ellis sheds light on how she sought to grow members of her staff and the need to find new ways to motivate and engage players.
