Faith over fear

Forsaken Yet Faithful: The Cry of the Cross

Listen Later

Psalm 22 begins with a desperate cry of abandonment—“My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?”—expressing deep anguish and a sense of distance from God. The psalmist feels mocked, scorned, and physically broken, surrounded by enemies. Yet despite the suffering, he affirms God’s holiness and remembers His past faithfulness.

Midway through, the tone shifts from lament to trust. The psalmist pleads for deliverance and then declares hope that God will rescue him. By the end, the psalm erupts into praise and confidence: future generations will hear of God’s righteousness and worship Him.

Prophetic Note: Psalm 22 powerfully foreshadows Jesus’ crucifixion—His cry on the cross, the mockery, the pierced hands and feet, and soldiers casting lots for His clothing. It begins in agony but ends in victory.
