In 2 Samuel 7, YHWH establishes an everlasting covenant with David. On the practical side of this passage we note that this covenant was initiated by God with His chosen servant. Earlier when choosing David YHWH had declared to Samuel, "the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." God is the discerner of the heart of man. That could be comforting or convicting. The prophetical consideration of this covenant with David is extremely important. Anyone claiming that they are the Messiah must be able to prove their lineage. They must be able to prove that they are a descendant of David. When the temple was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD all of the genealogical records were destroyed! In Matthew 1 and Luke 3, the genealogical record of Jesus is established. Both Mary and Joseph are seen to be of the line of David. Jesus IS the Son of David and we await for His return to rule on the Davidic throne during the Millenium. ...
