On September 17, 1991, I met Mariah Carey at a Sam Goody in New York City, where she was signing copies of her album Emotions. It was release day of that album and I was 11 years old. I was a huge Mariah fan and meeting her was such an important and powerful day in my life.

Welcome to the Found In A Song podcast, with your host, Laurie Somma. This podcast is about all things music and this episode is all about what music means to Laurie.
Music is such a healing experience for so many of us. It's our therapy. Our way of feeling not so alone. My childhood was filled with feelings of worthlessness, trauma and a lot of frustration I didn't know how to work through. I turned to eating disorder and alcohol at a very young age and music is helped me through so much. I wouldn't be alive if it weren't for music.
