  • We Said Six Months—He Became Our Son

When Christine and her husband Andrew became foster carers in 2019, they expected fostering to become Christine’s new job. Their very first placement was a four-year-old a child who had experienced extreme neglect, trauma, and two previous placement breakdowns.

They initially agreed to care for him for only six months. Instead, he changed their lives.

Christine shares how learning to recognize the unmet needs underneath trauma-related behavior transformed the way she and Andrew parented their son—and how six months of fostering became a four-and-a-half-year fight to keep him.

In February 2024, he officially became their son through adoption.

This is Christine’s story of foster care, trauma-informed parenting, perseverance, adoption, and becoming a family.

Welcome to Found with Trish & Sherri, where we believe everybody has a story.

We’re Trish and Sherri—childhood friends, adoptees, authors, and podcast co-hosts. Our own searches for biological family changed our lives and eventually led us here: creating a space for honest conversations about the stories that shape who we are.

On Found, we talk with adoptees, birth parents, adoptive parents, NPEs, people navigating DNA discoveries and family reunions, and others whose lives have taken unexpected turns. We talk about identity, belonging, searching, finding, relationships, boundaries, loss, connection, and everything in between.

Some stories have happy endings. Some are complicated. Some are still being written.

And while adoption and DNA are a big part of where Found began, our message is bigger than that:

Everybody has a story. We want to hear yours.
