Part 3: Four Dimensions of Marriage
Matthew 13:34 (NLT) – Jesus always used stories and illustrations like these when speaking to the crowds. In fact, he never spoke to them without using such parables.
Four Dimensions of Marriage:
1. Rejoicing: The Beauty of Celebration
Song of Solomon 4:9 (MSG) – You’ve captured my heart, dear friend. You looked at me, and I fell in love. One look my way and I was hopelessly in love!
2. Rivals: The Competition of Distractions
• Distractions are Never Satisfied
Galatians 5:16-17 (NLT) – So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. 17 The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.
• Distractions Hurt Everyone Involved
Matthew 16:26 (NLT) – And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?
3. Reconciliation: The Pain of Restoration
James 1:19 (NLT) – Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.
Proverbs 18:2 (NLT) – Fools have no interest in understanding; they only want to air their own opinions.
4. Reordering: The Practice of Reprioritization
Matthew 3:8 (NLT) – Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God.
• Are you taking time to REJOICE in your marriage…to celebrate together?
• What RIVALS are competing for your attention, and how will you address them?
• What needs to be RECONCILED in your marriage… admitting you were wrong and making things right?
• How do you need to REORDER your priorities, and your schedule, to keep your marriage healthy?
