During his second missionary journey, the Apostle Paul stopped in Athens and preached an evangelical sermon to a group of intellectuals.  He added some impressive quotes from their poets and even mentioned their unknown god, but it didn't go so well.  Later, he explained to the Corinthians what he learned from that experience.
