Four of Cups
Welcome to season 9 of this podcast, where I am talking all about the Suit of Cups. I’ll be going through each card in the suit, one per episode.
What we explore in this episode:
The Four of Cups as a card of disengagement, withdrawal, and reevaluation
Symbolism across decks: contemplation, apathy, divine offerings, and closed eyes
The tension between rest and missed opportunities
How openness and presence allow us to receive what we need
Pictures from the decks I talked about today referenced from left to right:
The Desert Illuminations Tarot by Lindsay D. Williams
The Sasuraibito Tarot deck by Stasia Burrington
The Goddess of Love Tarot Deck: A Book and Deck for Embodying The Erotic Divine Feminine by Gabriela Herstik and illustrated by Julia Popescu
In this episode, we sit with the contemplative space of the Four of Cups — a card that shows us what it looks like to turn inward and what we might miss when we get stuck there. Whether it’s apathy, emotional burnout, or unmet expectations, this card shows up when we need to pause and ask: ‘What am I not seeing? What wants to find me if I soften my resistance?’
There’s a difference between taking sacred space and shutting the world out. The Four of Cups reminds us to check our posture: Are we closed off from life, or are we consciously listening for something deeper to come through?

Today's Tarot Pull:
From The Citadel: A Fantasy Oracle by Fen Inkwright, I pulled The Forgotten (reversed). In its reversed position, this card represents a painful reckoning—a sense of being overwhelmed, emotionally blocked, or trapped in a spiral of fear or hopelessness. But the reversal also carries a message: Change is coming. This moment may feel heavy, but it asks us to stop ignoring what is right in front of us. It’s a wake-up call to shift focus and choose something different.
Reflective prompts on this card:
Where have I stopped listening to the quiet invitations life is offering me?
What have I turned away from out of fear, pain, or grief?
What if it’s not too late to receive the thing I thought I missed?
