What if it's not safe to turn on the tap?
When grad student Summer Cassidy arrives in West Virginia to test water quality near fracking sites, she confronts fouled wells, puzzling illnesses, and cyberespionage. The community splits into two camps, each with high stakes: jobs that feed families and millions in investments versus clean water and the good health it makes possible. Gut-wrenching betrayals, explosions, and murder ignite this fast-paced mystery. Surrounded by chaos and deceit, can Summer track the source of contaminants before more people get sick - or even die - simply by turning on their taps?
Fraccidental Death continues the adventures of hydrogeologist Summer Cassidy that began in the award-winning thriller Wet Work, but it is not necessary to listen to the first book to enjoy the second.

Don't Drink The Water
In this follow-up to her debut eco-terror novel Wet Work, author Donna Meredith plumbs the murky depths of the fracking industry, deftly simplifying a complex issue without ever dumbing it down.
Once again, hydrogeologist Summer Cassidy inadvertently steps in something that smells really bad, namely the leaking holding tanks full of ...well, she doesnât know what theyâre full of, because legal loopholes and go-along-to-get-along politicians have made sure Fairhope Energy and other fracking operations in West Virginia have the right to remain silent.
Summerâs initial reaction to the rigged system is frustration, but it turns to dogged investigation after a low-level worker at one of Fairhopeâs sites is splashed with the companyâs proprietary fracking mixture. Doctors canât effectively treat the victim, since the company refuses to divulge the chemical components of FloMoshun, so the results are devastating, though short of fatal. Fatal is accomplished by the bullet that precludes the possibility the victim will talk. Or sue.
Can the leaching of the noxious compound into the groundwater of this otherwise pristine community by linked to problems ranging from foul tap water to cancer? Thatâs what Summer wants to find out.
She is aided by her close friend, Dayita, a talented hacker who finds herself cyber-stalked after she dips into the classified information that could give Summer the answers she needs. As in the previous book, Summerâs tricky relationship with Ty, a magnetic former Navy SEAL now zealously engaged in war against polluters, spins the needle of her moral compass, leaving her to wonder if he loves her or is merely using her to further his vendetta against the fracking industry.
Facing shotguns, stonewalling, professional discrediting and even a profound betrayal by her own mother, Summer Cassidy remains true to herself, risking everything to save people from the side effects of corporate greed.
If you ever drank a glass of tap water, you should read this compelling novel.
An Award-winning mystery
Like Elizabeth George and Donna Leon, Donna Meredith writes a thrilling mystery with a timely social message. She also creates believable characters, especially Summer Cassidy, an intelligent and resourceful female protagonist. Although the young graduate student sometimes makes mistakes in judgment, she also correctly assesses dangerous situations and responds courageously.
