Frankenstein - Chapter 15

Listen Later

Shaped by his observations of practical morality from his beloved cottagers, the Creature has been considering mankind and his part in it with both fascination and despair. We bear witness to his evolving consciousness, the development of his intellect and understandings of society that pivot on an accidental discovery - a trove of literature that sings with philosophical discourse, soaring language and emotional intensity.

We walk alongside him on his solitary journey of intellectual and emotional growth. Spanning across the fields of fiction, biography and philosophy, these books become his companions offering profound insights into the human condition. Like an ancient wanderer discovering new lands, he stumbles upon the broad realms of human nature, morality, love, loss and existential yearning.

Yet within this thrilling enlightening journey, shadows of despair begin to creep in. Our Creature, as he grapples with his existence, is plagued by a tormenting incongruity - he is both apart and a part of the humanity he so ardently studies. His self-reflection, sparked by such profound narratives, churns a sea of questions that remain woefully unanswered, magnifying his outcast state.

It is in his quest for acceptance that events take a dramatic turn. A plan of introduction is hatched, founded on his hopeful belief in the virtues of humanity and universally empathic bonds. But will his hope be rewarded, or will the unbearable truth of his monstrous visage instinctively repel his wished-for acceptance?
