Frankenstein Volume I Letters

Listen Later

Frankenstein follows Victor Frankenstein, a passionate young scientist who succeeds in creating a living being from inanimate parts. Horrified by the creature's appearance, he abandons it, and the lonely, rejected creature seeks revenge on its creator for its miserable existence. The novel explores themes of ambition, scientific ethics, and the consequences of playing god, as the two become entangled in a destructive cycle.

We are introduced to Robert Walton, a young captain exploring the wilderness of the North Pole. While writing letters to his sister Margaret, he encounters an almost frozen to death man: the doctor Victor Frankenstein.
