Killed in a raid on his apartment in Chicago in 1969, Fred Hampton was the rising star in the Black Panther Party. The target of surveillance by the FBI, which viewed him and the Panthers as a mortal threat to America, Hampton’s death was regarded by many as a hit intended to complete the decapitation of the party.
