Pilate gave the Jews a choice, should he release: Jesus (perfect and innocent) or Barabbas (the guilty murderer). The crowd chose Barabbas and he is set free while Jesus is punished. This is our story. Jesus took the punishment we deserved so that we could have a chance at freedom.
