Just the fact that Jesus (a Jew) had a conversation with this woman (a Samaritan) broke barriers. And while she may have been preparing herself to be mocked and ridiculed for her past, Jesus instead showed the woman that He knew everything about her, but loved her anyway. The same can be said for us.
