Welcome to the podcast, Free Speech Isn't Free! I am just a mom with a phone who cares about making this world a better place for my children and yours. One of the many "hats" I wear is citizen journalist, and I post to social media and create podcast episodes as I feel led. Thank you for your support!
In today's episode, I have a conversation with POW (Prisoner of War), Sam.
Sam attended the "Stop the Steal" rally in Washington D.C. on January 5, 2020, as well as President Trump's speech on January 6, 2020. Following President Trump's speech, Sam was caught up in the adrenaline and kinetic movement of the massive crowd as they walked toward the capitol building. As a result of his actions that day, Sam was arrested on January 20, 2020 and spent 6 months in prison. While in prison, Sam remained in solitary confinement for 23 hours per day, but he developed deep bonds with other prisoners by passing notes and having conversations through vents in the wall. Sam says that the most heroic and honorable people he has ever known are still in "the gulag" and are at the mercy of a corrupt, two-tiered justice system. Families of "January sixers" have been destroyed by a political regime that does not honor freedom, law and order, fair elections, or the Constitution. In prison, Sam experienced mind control tactics as well as discrimination from some of the guards, who were not even U.S. citizens. In this interview, we avoided discussing details of Sam's specific actions on January 20 to maintain integrity for his case, which remains open. Sam is facing up to 5 years in prison should he go to trial or take a plea deal.

In today's episode, Becky has a conversation with Visalia Rescue Mission's De'Ann Reimer and Nova Torres about community work the mission does specifically to help rehabilitate the homeless. The Visalia Rescue Mission has been operating for over 40 years and has a womens' temporary housing shelter, a mens' temporary housing shelter, a women's and men's 1-year drug addiction recovery program, a thrift store, and a boutique. Their program offers hands-on job skills and training through their very successful boutique and thrift store businesses, as well as biblical discipleship, life skills such as interviewing and professional behavior, parenting classes, and trauma education. After completion of their recovery program, graduates go on to transitional housing where they practice living on their own (almost) out in the real world again with a lot of love and support. Thank you to the Director of Ministry Operations, Nova and former staff member, De'Ann for all you do to help our community and make California a better place. You are amazing, and you are loved!!!
