Study Coach Podcast with Morel Benard presenting history of slaves becoming free in the USA and the design of social and educational programmes to facilitate learning. Some educational programmes were Government led in conjunction with charities, others were established by the freedmen and women as described by Carter G. Woodson. Inspiring to learn that the freedmen took the initiative to take on leadership roles and to purchase land and construct schools to educate freed men, women and children. The idea of compulsory education for children up to age 16 is evident from the Port Royal Experience.
