FREEDOM
Galatians 5:1 (NIV) – [1] It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
1. Jesus came to set us free.
Luke 4:18 (NIV) – [18] “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, [19] to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.” [20] Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him, [21] and he began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
2. Freedom comes by knowing the truth.
John 8:31-32 (NIV) – [31] To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. [32] Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
3. Jesus set us free once and for all.
John 8:36 (NIV) – [36] So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
4. Freedom can be lost if we don’t stand firm.
Isaiah 7:9 (NIV) – [9] “If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.”
1 Corinthians 16:13-14 (NIV) – [13] Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. [14] And do everything with love.
5. Freedom is found where the Holy Spirit is.
2 Corinthians 3:17 (NIV) – [17] Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
