Freedom from Fear and Passivity

Listen Later

In this message, we continue our semester-long series on Freedom by confronting two major barriers to walking in spiritual authority: fear and passivity. While fear is often internalized as anxiety or anticipation of danger, passivity is frequently dismissed as a personality trait rather than recognized as spiritual rebellion.

We explore the subtle nature of these strongholds and how to combat them by knowing your identity in Christ and learning to "hide behind the Word" of God. This teaching examines Biblical examples of how passivity leads to destruction and offers a call to active obedience.

Key Topics Covered:

• The Subtlety of Fear: Moving beyond outward fright to understanding fear as a tormenting anticipation of danger or rejection.

• Identity and Authority: An illustration from Ethiopia on how understanding your citizenship changes your confidence in hostile environments.

• The Sin of Passivity: Why knowing the good you ought to do and not doing it is a form of rebellion (James 4:17).

• Biblical Case Studies:

• Adam (Genesis 3:6): Passivity in spiritual leadership.

• Eli (1 Samuel 3:13): Failure to restrain sin due to a lack of conviction.

• David (2 Samuel 11:1): Seeking comfort instead of the battle.
