The closing section of 1 Corinthians 10 is Paul's practical conclusion to the discussion that began in chapter 8 about meat offered to idols. Having already dealt with eating in pagan temples, he now considers two related questions: may a Christian buy meat in the marketplace and eat it at home, and may one accept an invitation to a meal in an unbeliever's house where such meat might be served? Paul answers both in the affirmative, but with an important qualification—do not inquire whether the meat was sacrificed to an idol. His concern is not the food itself but the association our actions create; Christians must exercise discernment in these grey areas, avoiding anything that offends a brother's conscience or appears to identify us with idolatry
