you've likely noticed that good customer service is hard to come by these days—i cannot stress enough just how COSTLY and INHUMANE this is from a business standpoint.

regardless, i wanted to chat about it because i have thoughts—and realizations regarding HOW we sell both IRL and online.

our humanity is our strongest asset—we've got to start acting like it.

our fear of mistakes, looking unprofessional and even cancellable is exactly why the internet is a slop fest.

this morning i wanted to chat about the amorphous algorithm we love to hate.

what’s funny is it’s not that mysterious at all—platforms want to keep people on the platform. if your content facilitates that—it rewards you—if people scroll past—they demote you.

this episode demystifies the algorithm, gives examples on what good vs bad virality is and yet again i give a great example on how rehoming content can be hilariously effective.

some downloads came to me this morning after making myself a BLT...

so i walked out the door and started to talk about

• positive takes on ai (how it's shifting our values from output to results)

• how your naivety, pause, pivot & randomness is actually your strength

• evolving thoughts on paywalls

i hope hearing these thoughts shifted something positive for you.
if you want to employ these concepts into something tangible, read my suggested homework below.

• make a list of results you achieved in the last 5 years

  • hosted an event? got noticed for xyz? caused a rucus? dealt with a hater?

  • survived a failed project? a pivot?

• consider how your pause, pivot or work history might actually be an advantage to the world in which you are going.

  • write down lessons and skills learnt over the last 5-10 years

  • how do these beliefs and experiences influence your pov

  • how might you employ what you learnt in other industries to this new industry? why would they care/find it interesting?

• what's your thoughts on paywalls? do you happily pay for anything on the internet?

  • how does paying change your relationship to the content?

  • what motivated you to pay? (was it a perfect funnel/ quality work/ personality/alignment?)

look up the blue ocean/red ocean theory. think about how you can position yourself in your own category. where would you confidently stand out with value?

• write down what everyone in your industry does (the status quo)

  • write down how you could employ the opposite or go against the grain in an intentional way

im not saying i have the answers, but my musings might help you find yours.

in this episode i'm musing about:

• finding the right rooms (sometimes it's the one where you stand out)

• choosing a platform that inspires creation (not obligation)

• how im approaching my goal to make 2k in 2 weeks.

loving the vibe? but not sure how to employ these ideas irl?

• reimagine where your work would be best received

• brainstorm new rooms to be in (comedy club anyone?)

• try putting a piece of work on marketplace (at any price you see fit) see how it goes

• look at the back end of patreon, substack, instagram, tiktok, youtube, metalabel, DFOS

  • which framework inspires you the create?

  • which could you see yourself maintaining with ease?

  • think about price points that don't depend on volume

• write your sales goal for the next two weeks

  • email or txt 3 people who might get you there faster

  • sell shit online

  • circle back to past clients & leads

One thing i didn't mention in the pod was that i'm also rethinking where i get visibility. i was watching a youtube this weekend about the sublime app and while she was mentioning quotes she found on there it suddenly hit me that i could likely use sublime as a discovery tool for my book but also my substack!

worth looking into!!

reason i think it's an uptapped place is you can put your work among comparable/similar things. similar works, similar art, similar inspo and it will suggest it to others looking at those things...
