Some were involved in the Madrid train bombings, and some went to Iraq. She won a Pulitzer Prize this year for her series An Imam in America.

Then, Joel Hafvenstein, who worked in Afghanistan for a year trying to convince Afghan opium poppy farmers to give up what he calls "the perfect crop". Working for a private company funded by the United States Agency for International Development, it was Hafvenstein's job to provide Afghan farmers with small jobs like building canals and roads. His aim was to convince them to give up their alliance to the former Taliban government.
