Susan Richardson of Rolling Stone describes Wolff's book as "alive, springing off the page to engage you like the latest box office draw." Egoyan made the movie Exotica. The movie won the International Critics Prize at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival. Exotica is considered to be Egoyan's breakthrough movie.
