Friday, 31 October 2025 (Week 30 in Ordinary Time, Year C).
Readings
•First Reading: Romans 9:1–5.
•
•Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 147:12–15, 19–20 “O praise the Lord, Jerusalem!”
•
•Gospel: Luke 14:1–6.
Main Point:
True love puts mercy above rules and compassion above comfort.
Homily / Reflection
In the Gospel, Jesus heals a man suffering from dropsy on the Sabbath. The Pharisees are watching, more concerned about regulations than the suffering person in front of them. But Jesus shows that genuine faith is not about cold legalism it is about love in action. Mercy is the heart of God’s law.
Saint Paul, in the first reading, reveals a love so deep that he would even sacrifice himself for his people, the Israelites. This is the same kind of love Jesus lived a love that forgets self for the sake of others.
Our faith is authentic only when it moves us to compassion. Rules guide us, but love fulfills them. When we see someone in need, the question should not be, “Is it allowed?” but rather, “Is it loving?”
The Way Forward
•Let compassion guide your actions more than comfort or custom.
•When you see someone suffering, act with kindness immediately don’t wait for the “right time.”
•Ask the Holy Spirit daily to make your heart sensitive to others’ pain.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, teach me to love as You love. Give me a heart that puts mercy before judgment and compassion before convenience. Help me to bring healing where there is pain. Amen.
