Friday, 7 November 2025; Friday of Week 31 in Ordinary Time – Year C (Green)
Readings at Mass.
First Reading: Romans 15:14–21 – “My duty is to bring the Good News from God to the pagans.”
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 97(98):1–4 – “The Lord has shown his salvation to the nations.”
Gospel: Luke 16:1–8 – “The master praised the dishonest servant.”
Main Point:
Use your gifts and resources wisely to serve God and others.
Homily:
In the Gospel, Jesus tells the story of the shrewd steward, a man who, when faced with losing his job, used his intelligence and initiative to prepare for his future. Even though his methods were dishonest, the master praised him not for his dishonesty, but for his cleverness and foresight.
Jesus invites us to learn from this example not to be dishonest, but to be wise, creative, and proactive in using what God has given us. We often show great energy in pursuing worldly goals but much less effort in pursuing eternal life.
Saint Paul, in the first reading, reminds us that his mission was to bring the Good News to those who had not heard it. Like Paul, we are all called to use our time, talents, and resources to advance God’s kingdom in our families, workplaces, and communities.
Concrete Example:
A student who uses their knowledge to help classmates, a businessperson who uses profits to support the poor, or a young person who shares faith with friends all act as wise stewards. God is pleased when we use our abilities for good, not for selfish gain.
The Way Forward:
Let us not waste our gifts on temporary pleasures. Instead, let us be creative and generous in doing good, always mindful that everything we have is a trust from God.
Summary Verse:
“The Lord has shown his salvation to the nations.” (Psalm 97:2)
“The children of this world are more astute than the children of light.” (Luke 16:8)
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, teach me to be a wise and faithful steward of all you have entrusted to me. May I use my time, talents, and treasures to serve others and glorify your name. Amen.
