Lyfe On Purpose

Friends, Associates & Funds, EP4

Listen Later

In this episode, I talk to Yomi Afolabi & Ife Akinkoye as we dialogue on what the barriers are to doing business with friends (or family), and how that limits a group of people, using Nigerians and Nigerian-Americans as a case study.

  • Yomi points to Trust and varying risk levels as the reason for limited business transactions
  • Ife points to the role culture plays, and even delves into external factors (i.e. colonialism) that derail collective bargaining (& internal trust)
  • We land on the need to think globally, not limited to Ghanian-Americans or African-American, but as Blacks
  • We affirm the need to scale up on trust, knowing it starts from a few good men/women working together before a full community can grow collectively
  • We end with the need to have continued conversations, hoping it yields significant results for the next generation.
  • Join the discussion and leave a voice message that could be played in edited versions.
