Thank you Deirdre for joining me on the playground and sharing your career story with us.

Here are my take aways from the chat:

She studied to be a travel agent, but she discovered that this did not align with her values. A big clue – her friend who was also a travel agent got very excited about the trips and all the accoutrement of being in the travel agency world. Deirdre did not share this excitement.

People noticed leadership skills before she did, and she learned – find people who want to and are willing to invest in you.

The Shepherds of Good Hope runs a kind of mini-hospital providing healthcare for people who are experiencing homelessness and other challenges.

Being able to sit in discomfort has been a key skill for Deirdre throughout her career, and I loved how she said, after starting her position at Shepherds of Good Hope – “I am not filling anyone’s shoes. I can only walk in mine. “

She tries to be better each day and has a positive attitude. She is living her purpose when she is able to help other people.

Her favourite quote – LL Cool J –“ Dreams don’t have deadlines.”
