Often parents are told that their child doesn't put forth their best effort. In reality all we are doing is candy coating the fact that the student hasn't mastered the coarse content. As teachers we need to raise our expectation for student achievement and stop accepting sub-par work from our students. Then and only then will the student's grades improve.
