From corporate to creative: Continuing a Jamaican Family Legacy

Listen Later

Toni-Kay Dawkins is an entrepreneur, creative director and producer, people enthusiast, and change agent. She is a proud graduate of Wolmer’s Girls School and Bennington College, Bennington, Vermont, USA. Toni-Kay holds a Bachelor of Arts in Documentary Filmmaking, Mediation and International Dispute Resolution from Bennington College. She is also a certified Mediator.

Toni-Kay (TK) is most passionate about building the community she and many of her closest friends now flourish in. A community where people of different political persuasions, religious affiliations, educational levels and socio-economic backgrounds unite in order to:

1. Acquire and (more importantly) implement the knowledge needed to make permanent positive change
2. Hold each other accountable therefore keeping everyone more consistent
3. Create additional income streams and learn how to invest it.
4. And from this unique community has emerged many success stories.

Toni-Kay has learned that blindly following “society” and listening to what “they" say has led many to socially accepted images but emotionally and financially deficient lives and she is uniting those ready to ask uncommon questions, take uncommon action and experience uncommon results.

TK has proactively and intentionally invested in her personal and professional growth and development and has since:

- Won several corporate awards

- Made her directorial debut (She has to date directed 3 successful theatrical productions and has a 4th theatrical production "Once a Man, Twice a Wife" which opens April 3, 2021 and will be available online)
- Lost 50lbs
- Created an additional income stream for herself and others
- Walked away from the 9-5 she was programmed to believe she couldn’t live without.

In today's episode, Toni-Kay shares many powerful nuggets and lessons, a few of my favourites are below:

1. The importance of taking care of our mind and mindset.

2. Our mindset accounts for 75%, while our behaviours and actions account for 25% of our success.

3. The power of habits.

4. The power of relationships.

5. The power of communication and community (unity).
