In this episode of Prepare For Takeoff, Founder & Executive Director of The Privilege Institute and Founder & Program Director of the White Privilege Conference, Dr. Eddie Moore, Jr. shares his journey from a childhood in Florida, where three of his older brothers were imprisoned before he graduated high school, to becoming a national leader in diversity, equity and inclusion. Sports gave him discipline, structure and a sense of identity, but addiction eventually pulled him to rock bottom. Through sobriety, mentorship and faith, he was able to turn his life around and transform his future. He went from being a “crackhead” to earning his Ph.D., a path that shaped his purpose and passion for change. Dr. Moore created the White Privilege Conference, an annual gathering of educators, students, activists and community leaders that examines race, privilege, power and oppression in society. He also founded The Privilege Institute, which leads programs in financial literacy, social justice and leadership development to equip people with tools for growth and impact. Yoga and mindfulness have become an important part of his life and he believes these practices can benefit everyone. Dr. Moore leaves viewers and listeners with a powerful reminder to trust their instincts, lean on community and follow their passions as they Prepare For Takeoff.
