In the pilot episode of The Michael James Way, Michael shares the hard season that forced change and the decision that became the turning point.
At the end of 2011 and beginning of 2012, Michael was going through a divorce, learning how to be a single dad, and watching his business collapse while finances fell apart. In the middle of that mess, one thing consistently brought peace: riding his bicycle in the woods, hearing the leaves under the tires, feeling the wind, and letting nature quiet everything down.
After racing a full season in Georgia and finishing 12th in the United States at nationals, he realized success did not equal happiness. On the drive home from Madison, Wisconsin to Georgia, he made a decision that would change his life: ride his bicycle across the United States.
Michael breaks down the five steps that moved the dream into reality
1. A change had to happen
2. Hire a coach
3. Buy the one way ticket to San Francisco to remove the option of turning back
4. Prepare with hard training and real world scenarios
5. Create accountability through coaching, communication, and telling people publicly
This episode is about mindset shift, discipline, and doing the next right thing when you feel broken.
