Thank you so much for listening to my chat with the truly amazing Shrouk El Feshawy.
Thank you Shrouk for hanging out with us on the playground and sharing your career story with us.
Here are my key take aways from the chat:
Values. Shrouk is the product of the love and resilience she brings with her from her family and community in Egypt.
Options. Earning a GPA of 99.6% allowed her to choose any path – she chose to study pharmacy so she could support others and make a difference in people’s lives. She married her academic background with her goal of contributing to the well-being of others.
Enthusiasm and determination. She has always been and is still focused on professional and personal development – whether in Egypt or now at home in Canada.
Resilience. She and her small family moved to Kelowna when her husband was accepted for his Ph.D. at UBC. They knew no one, and she found a position as a pharmacy assistant. In this role she encountered many immigrants and refugees with immense challenges.
Volunteer. She made a career pivot when she transitioned from pharmaceutical career to become a settlement worker. Through her initial volunteer work, she learned that supporting newcomers is not just a job, but a life-long commitment.
Setting boundaries, prioritizing self-care and advocating for clients is imperative for Shrouk. Her next goal – a Master’s degree in Social Work.
You can discover yourself and your skills in another country. Family is her backbone, and she could not do anything without their support.
Her favourite words – never give up. Face challenges with determination and resilience, obstacles are an opportunity for growth and every set back is a stepping stone towards success.
A positive way to end a magical and motiving chat! Thank you so much for sharing YOUR experiences my dear Shrouk.
Please remember to join the Playground Project group on Facebook for more inspiration and elevation!
Please be good to yourself, to others, to animals and the environment. See you on the playground next week, when we will jump into the future together!
