This parable is often read as rich peoples' responsibility to take care of the poor (true!). But we will peel back some layers to see that the root cause of concern is more about hoarding God's riches... and that not all riches are about money. We have one of God's greatest riches in Jesus Christ, but do we hoard him? Or share him? Our actions speak louder than our words, and they reveal the condition of our spirit. And... the condition of our spirit is an indicator of our joy level. Could it be that we have so little joy because we hoard God's greatest riches? We will tie into Communion to show Jesus' model for how to move from spiritual famine to feast as he shares God's greatest gift (forgiveness and reconciliation) with all.
