From Gangs to Glory with Special Guests Pastors Terrell and BrandyScott

Listen Later

In this powerful episode of The Vision, hosts Destiny Yarbrough, Day Gardner, Dr. Alveda King, and Pastor Jearlyn Dennie welcome Pastors Terrell and Brandy Scott to share their remarkable testimony of redemption, forgiveness, and transformation. The Scotts, founders of Malachi’s House and leaders of an international ministry, describe how God turned a story of crime, pain, and brokenness into a testimony of restoration and purpose. Their journey begins with Pastor Terrell recounting the path that led him into a life of crime. As a young man he opened the door to destructive behaviors through partying, alcohol, and sexual sin. While attending college on a full scholarship, he became involved in drug trafficking and eventually lost both his scholarship and his freedom when he was arrested and sent to prison.

Even after being incarcerated, Terrell continued operating within criminal networks inside the prison system. Violence and gang activity surrounded him, and during one confrontation he was stabbed and placed in isolation. At that point his life appeared to be spiraling deeper into darkness. Yet the turning point came through an unexpected act of forgiveness that would ultimately transform his life. The woman he had once robbed at gunpoint later became the very person who would bring the message of the Gospel to him while he was in prison. That woman was Brandy Scott, who now sits beside him as his wife and ministry partner.

Brandy explains that after becoming a Christian she encountered the biblical command to forgive those who had wronged her. Although the memory of the robbery filled her with anger and pain, she prayed and asked God to change her heart. Over time the Holy Spirit helped her release the bitterness she carried. When she later learned that Terrell had been imprisoned for drug trafficking, she began praying for his salvation. Supported by her church community, she eventually visited the prison to share the Gospel with him.

During that encounter something extraordinary occurred. Brandy spoke to Terrell with compassion and delivered what he describes as a word of knowledge, revealing details about his life that she could not have known. She told him that he was not called to be a crime boss but to lead people toward God. Her words pierced through the hardened identity he had built through years of crime. For the first time in years, Terrell felt conviction and hope. Soon afterward he began reading the Bible and gradually separated himself from the gangs, drugs, and destructive lifestyle that had controlled him.

Following his transformation, Terrell and Brandy sought God’s direction together. Their relationship developed through prayer, study of Scripture, and spiritual mentorship. Eventually they married and began a ministry devoted to helping others experience the same freedom they had found. Today they have five children and lead Malachi’s House, a church and community center located in the same neighborhood where Terrell once sold drugs. Their outreach focuses on mentoring young people and strengthening families.

Through the Malachi Project, their work now extends internationally, reaching communities across several continents. Inspired by the biblical call to turn the hearts of fathers toward their children, their ministry emphasizes generational restoration and spiritual mentorship. The episode concludes with encouragement for viewers who may feel trapped by addiction, mistakes, or past failures. The Scotts remind audiences that God can transform any life and turn even the most painful experiences into a testimony of hope and purpose.
