We sat down with Liz Bloomfield, an SF native who loves to sculpt clay works inspired by nature and biology. Once a science nerd, Liz followed her instinct and passion and made a total career U-turn when she quit working to return to school full-time at San Francisco’s community college and explore art. While at CCSF, she discovered and fell in love with clay as her medium of choice. Today, she creates beautiful organic sculptures and 3D pottery wall hangings that mimic nature, such as ocean organisms and sea creatures.
“She riffs off of organic forms and textures found in the surroundings on long walks along shores, deserts, alpine mountains, and slot canyons. She enjoys ceramic exploration and experimentation, and the making process plays a large role in the overall feeling of each piece. She creates for the joy of it, and from a deep appreciation for the pure beauty and curiosities of nature.”
This episode is full of gems. Liz has wisdom beyond her years. Get inspired and take away some practical advice and smart, simple tips and tools for creating a successful art career in San Francisco.
