Teaser: from opinions to possibilities
It can be tempting when you’re in fear or confusion to want to have things "make sense."
Coming up with an opinion is one way to manage mental anxiety. Our minds scan for certainty. We can say we follow science or logic or facts, but when it comes to allaying our mental fears, we often conjure an opinion, which is not necessarily based in fact.
Opinions are judgments or points of view that try to pass for something that sounds true or persuasive, but needs evidence to back it up. For example: Eating a keto diet is the best for everybody's health.
Opinions are quite powerful and are often supported by equally powerful emotions and strong talk. How can we be with this dynamic within ourselves and others?
One of the keys to addressing the mental and emotional anxiety that lies behind the need for certainty, is to tap into your power of love and caring. Love yourself (and others) in those moments of confusion and fear.
Give yourself some space and time and know that "nothing gets eaten as hot as it is cooked." Meaning, that if you give whatever-it-is you’re worried about a little space, a little time, it will cool down. You don’t have to find certainty or a solution right away, if ever.
Part of loving yourself and others has to do with having good humour! When you can smile/laugh at yourself and the situation that was so "hot" a few moments ago, you know you are free from the trap of having to prove anything to anyone, including yourself!
