Ali Bonar is the Kween behind granola butter. (Have you tried it yet? GO GET IT RIGHT NOW!) Ali went to UC Berkeley to study nutrition and quickly found herself obsessed with eating “perfectly”, which led her to a cycle of binging and restricting and constantly being stressed about food. With the help of a nutritional therapist and an amazing community (both on social media and IRL), Ali began to heal her relationship with her body and with food. Now, she owns a food company with a mission of eating food that nourishes your body and also makes you feel good, and she uses her social platform to spread a message of healing, self-love, and body positivity. Viome Microbiome Test www.viome.com/BRYANNADEE   IN THIS EPISODE WE TALK ABOUT: Ali’s history with disordered eating and her journey into intuitive eating Why opening up about an eating disorder (or anything that you are ashamed of and hiding) is the first big leap towards healing What inspired her to start Kween foods How she made the decision to leave her career to be a full-time granola kween The energy and headspace that obsessing over food takes up… and the energy and headspace that you have to create when you are not obsessing over food Finding balance in social media when it’s such a big part of your business What’s next for Kween & Co. Plus much more…   RESOURCES FROM THIS EPISODE Mentioned: Balance By Molly Milk & Honey by Rupi Kaur The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson You Are a Bad Ass at Making Money by Jen Sincero   Connect with Ali: Instagram: @avokween Website: Kween Foods   QUOTES “Nut butters in particular were something that I felt like I didn’t have control around. So I wouldn’t even keep them in my dorm.” “I noticed a lot of these companies were like, buy our product because X-Y-Z-nutrition. I didn’t see a lot of companies out there with a mission that’s similar to ours, which is, nourish your body with food that makes you feel good, but also live your best life.” “Looking back, yes, I definitely had an eating disorder. Was it something that was black and white, one diagnosis? No. I would say it was periods of restriction, followed by periods of binging, followed by body dysmorphia. Overall, I think the biggest thing was just a general anxiety around food.” “It was a clear signal of, Ali, there are somethings that you are naturally good at. And there are some things that you need to push through and work to really get. But there are some things where you are just swimming upstream and working so hard that you need to just surrender and go a different direction.”   LET’S CONNECT Website: Bryannadee.com Instagram: @bryanna_dee Facebook: Facebook.com/bryannadee Pinterest: Pinterest.com/bryannadee/
