In this heartfelt episode, I sat down with my guest, Wendy Babcock—an international and TEDx speaker, author, and the founder of When Stories. Wendy and I had a powerful conversation about what it means to grow up in silence, how generational patterns keep us small, and how speaking the truth can set us free.
Wendy shared her journey of growing up in a home where secrecy was the norm—where she and her sister were taught not to talk about what happened behind closed doors. From childhood abuse to emotional disconnection, her story is one of transformation, resilience, and reclaiming her voice.
She opened up about what it was like to go eight years without contact with extended family, how reconnecting with her grandmother became a lifeline, and how therapy and personal development helped her rebuild her life after leaving an abusive marriage.
We talked about:
Why so many women are conditioned to stay quiet
How silence affects us emotionally, spiritually, and physically
The ripple effect of family secrets
Rebuilding connection and safety in adulthood
How sharing our story isn't about living in the past—it's about liberating ourselves and others
Wendy now helps other women craft their own origin stories and step into visibility with confidence through her platform, When Stories—a TEDx-style experience that gives women the tools and stage to share their truth and claim their voice.
One thing Wendy said that stayed with me:
"Your story matters. Even if you only share it with one trusted friend, it can change everything."
This episode reminded me why I created The Secret KeepHers Podcast—to create a space for women to bring their truths into the light, and to remind each other that healing is possible, and we don't have to walk it alone.
