From Small Things (Big Things One Day Will Come) | FOUNDRYsermon 8.14.16

Listen Later

I fixed a car one time with bubble gum and duct tape.

No lie. I had a stem come off a vacuum line. It was good enough to get me home. It was incredible what missing that tiny little part could do to the engine of my 1993 Ford Explorer. Even wilder was what a bit of bubble gum and some excess duct tape (yes. It was totally pulled off something else) can do to remedy the issue. I learned tons about the power of small things that day.

And we are talking about small things in this podcast. Or at least the place where small things can take us.

Small roads can lead to big places

Listen to the words of Jesus from Matthew chapter 7.

The Narrow Gate 13 "You can enter God's Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell[a] is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. 14 But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.

The Tree and Its Fruit 15 "Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves. 16 You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. 18 A good tree can't produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can't produce good fruit. 19 So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. 20 Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.

True Disciples 21 "Not everyone who calls out to me, 'Lord! Lord!' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter.

This passage is all about the power of taking that small, narrow road and understanding the large impact it can have no just in our world, but in our own personal lives and relationships with Jesus.
