Gordon Matthews of Schooley Mitchell came to this country from South Africa in his early 20's...and...well, never really left. Today you'll hear his story of coming to the United States, and his fascinating journey from Marco Island to Michigan.
We'll also talk about Schooley Mitchell, which is a company that specializes in cost reduction for small and medium sized businesses. Where large businesses like hospitals will pay big money for a "consultant" to come in and cut costs, Schooley Mitchell has a different model. They work with all types of clients, and find ways to reduce costs - from negotiating down your monthly bills to shipping and more. And they only charge businesses based on a percentage of what they save, which eliminates the need for a big upfront cost. And they will stick around to help monitor your costs and help avoid them creeping back up on you!
We ask Gordon how his recent involvement with the Chamber has been beneficial, and learn about what he does in his spare time - from telemark skiing to tango dancing with his wife.
Finally, we learn a little bit about his home country of South Africa, and its eleven(!) official languages, how it differs from the United States, and some funny "culture shock" moments our guest experienced when he got here.
