After a Roman general with a penchant for conquering vanquishes his rivals and becomes emperor of the known world, he decides that a heretofore illegal religion is just the right thing to give his reign the kind of influence it really needs to flourish. Thus was born the Imperial Christian Church, and our practice of the Way of Jesus was never the same again.

This second installment in our occasional and ongoing suite of episodes on Church History focuses on the rise of the Emperor Constantine in the early 4th century and how the Christian Church rolled with (and also rolled away from) the changes that came with the sudden legitimizing and official sanctioning of the faith.

If you are new to the podcast, then you'll want to listen to this episode (as well as Church History 1, which is being released in tandem with this one) so you're prepared for future installments, because, yes, from time to time we're going to keep tacking on new episodes in this mini-series as schedules and brain capacity allow.

This episode once again features Bo sitting down with our resident Church History expert, Allen Taliaferro, who, as always, provides a clear and insightful recap of the important periods and defining moments of the Christian Church. Yes, Allen's capacity for exact historical dates and key figures is impressive, but so is his ability to articulate the meaning that lies behind each event we cover, and how it should influence our thinking and our actions today.
