On this week's episode of From The Back Fields To The Bronx, Ricky Keeler is joined by Hudson Valley beat writer and lead scout Steve Alhona. Ricky and Steve begin the show by talking about the Renegades play during the week. It includes Oswald Peraza winning Player of the Month in the High-A East, Anthony Seigler back to playing in games, the amount of stolen bases at lower levels, and Elvis Peguero being an under-the-radar reliever to watch.
After briefly going over the other three affiliates with topics such as Trevor Hauver winning Low-A Southeast Player of the Month, Yoendrys Gomez making his 2021 debut on the mound in Tampa, and Chris Gittens making a case for a call-up at Scranton-Wilkes Barre, the duo shifts focus towards next month's MLB Draft.
The draft discussion started by looking at the history of the 20th pick and how crucial the pick is for the Yankees since they are not used to picking this high in the draft. The duo also looks at possible organizational needs, whether it is good to go prep school or college with a first pick.
With our MLB Draft scouting reports starting up soon, Steve and Ricky look at 3 players that have been linked to the Yankees in recent mock drafts and discuss if they would be good picks for the organization.
