From the Latest IPCC Report – Choosing Climate Hope

Listen Later

In the latest climate change report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the findings serve as a major warning to nations that major cuts to carbon emissions need to be made in order to limit global warming to just 1.5 degrees Celsuis. That means all nations must collectively reduce global emissions roughly 43% by 2030 and achieve net zero by the early 2050s. While these numbers may seem bleak, is “climate catastrophe” really the outlook for humanity, or should we have a more hopeful perspective on the future? Professor Greg Nemet at the UW La Follette School of Public Affairs was one of the lead authors on the latest IPCC report on climate change, yet he is a self-proclaimed “climate optimist” eager for solutions to sustain our planet.
