From the Miracle Mets to the Bad Boys of Baseball: The New York Mets in Popular Culture (David Krell)

Baseball writer and historian David Krell details the storied and amazing history of the New York Mets.  He talks about a myriad of topics from the first sponsorship for the Mets to their connection with the New York Metropolitans of the 19th century.  He explains how the Mets came to New York in 1962 and their owner the influential Joan Whitney Payson who owned the team from 1962 to 1975.  Krell details the early struggles for the Mets and their eventual rise of World Series Champions in 1969.  He discusses their powerful rotation of the early 70s with Seaver, Koosman, and Nolan Ryan.  After some down years the Mets returned to prominence in the mid-1980s with a brash and swaggering team.  Krell talks about the 80s rivalry with the St. Louis Cardinals and the funs style of baseball of each team.  He then discusses the Mets in popular culture with movies such as Gone Girl and City Slickers and famous TV shows like Seinfeld.  He finishes with a discussion on the future of the New York Mets and the future of baseball.
