Since the first Horn Showcase in 2000, the event has continued to grow, bringing together breeders, exhibitors, sponsors, and some of the best Texas Longhorn genetics in the industry. Matt walks us through the history of the event, the importance of horn measurements, and what breeders can expect from this year’s weekend.

A major highlight is the Select Sale on Friday, October 2 at 2:00 p.m., featuring everything from young heifers with exciting genetics to proven producers ready to strengthen a herd. We also talk about Bred and Owned consignments, parent-verified cattle, DNA-marked animals, Bull Alley connections, and the quality breeders have brought forward for this year’s sale.

In this episode, we head to the Texas Hill Country to visit with Kathy Palladini of Double K Longhorns. Kathy and her husband, Keith, run a 2,000-acre operation just outside Junction, Texas, where they raise registered Texas Longhorns with an emphasis on the whole animal.

Kathy shares the story behind their breeding program, the traits they value in their cattle, and what goes into building a herd with purpose. She also talks about another passion that has grown alongside the ranch—photography. With a talent for capturing the beauty and character of Longhorns, Kathy has built a canvas art business that brings her creative eye and cattle operation together.

It’s a conversation about breeding better cattle, seeing the beauty in the details, and turning a love for Longhorns into something even bigger.
