It can be easy to be terrified by a film like the exorcist. Here we are not dealing with a fictional creature that haunts our nightmares or wears a hockey mask. We are dealing with something real. We can let the reality of demons and the spirit world tempt us to overly fear the evil of these unseen forces and the world around us. At times the people in the movie seemed powerless. Sometimes we feel that way too. But we do not have to. There is one man we know who was never afraid of demons. That of course is Jesus. He was never afraid because he had power over them, just like he did storms, and disease.

When chapter 8 begins we are introduced to a few of the women who ministered with Jesus as well as the concept of parables. Luke then moves into a 3-part thematic narrative asserting Jesus’ dominance over the natural, spiritual, and physical world. Today, we will drill down into the middle part of that narrative by taking a closer look at when Jesus dedemonized a man from Gerasa.
