I want to share a personal story with you today that has changed the course of my life and made me the woman I am today. It illustrates the journey of a woman who wanted to be loved so badly by others because she didn’t love herself fully. 

She sought love from men she had no business dating because all the magic she carried within herself she projected onto them. She put them on a pedestal and bent over backwards to make everything perfect for them. She became a shell of Venus; as Rumi would say, she was running from room to room hunting for the diamond necklace that was already around her neck. She had dimmed her light so much that she didn’t recognize herself; she didn’t uphold her boundaries because she was afraid to end up alone and unsafe.

I hope her story teaches you that you need to love yourself fully. That you cannot expect someone else to give you what you’re denying yourself (and what they probably can’t give themselves, let alone another person). You need to know you’re inherently worthy. That you cannot, I repeat, cannot hand over your sense of worth to someone else. You cannot tie your wellbeing to their presence or absence in your life.
